Alternative Dispute Resolution
Ferro Labella & Zucker has a robust Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice in which we help adversaries to avoid the uncertainties and costs of litigation in the courts through mediation or arbitration. The experience and skills of a mediator or an arbitrator are often the most critical factor in achieving a successful mediation or a cost-effective and speedy arbitration. The firm’s ADR practice is co-chaired by the Honorable Peter E. Doyne (Ret.) and the Honorable Robert P. Contillo (Ret.). Judge Doyne is a distinguished, 22 year veteran of the New Jersey Judiciary, who served as Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division, Presiding Judge of the Law Division and ultimately as Assignment Judge in the Bergen County Vicinage. Prior to his elevation to the Bench, Judge Doyne was a prolific practicing litigator and trial lawyer in the state and federal courts. Judge Contillo, likewise a distinguished 16 year veteran of New Jersey Judiciary, first served 4 years in the Law Division and then served 12 years in the Chancery Divison, 8 years as Presiding Judge. Prior to his elevation to the Bench, Judge Contillo maintained a successful law practice and served as a Municipal Judge in several communities.
Through Judge Doyne’s stewardship, the firm has developed a successful and effective mediation and arbitration alternative dispute practice. The attorneys and clients who have had the fortune of mediating or arbitrating with Judge Doyne and his team are well aware of his dedication to the process, tireless work ethic and commitment to achieving a fair result unencumbered by the usual pitfalls of litigation in the courts. Judge Contillo’s recent addition to the firm will further enhance the practice providing the firm with two retired Judges with 38 years experience, including a combined 23 years in Chancery.
The firm has mediated and arbitrated a wide variety of business and personal disputes, such as:
- Oppressed minority shareholder actions
- Contract disputes
- Breach of restrictive covenants
- Limited liability company disputes
- Employment disputes, including CEPA and LAD claims
- Estate disputes
- Real Estate disputes
